*Art is defined as an expression which elicits an emotional response.
I've always been an artistic type. My mother is a wonderful artist and my father is a designer of high-tech, super-cool, whiz-bang gizmos for a spooky government contractor. He came up through the ranks as 'pencil & paper' draftsman (he still has the big balls of tape to prove it!). With this kind of natural talent passed on to me, I feel very fortunate. I've always drawn pictures and started doing black and white portraits to earn a few extra bucks when I was in the Army. I got away from art for many years as I took my place in the 'rat-race' of life. It wasn't until I started tattooing (another interesting story) that I really found a creative stride.
In tattoos, lines are everything. The design must be made to fit the area of the body it is intended to adorn. Color and shading plays a big part, but lines are the foundation of a successful piece.
Knives aren't any different! They are designed to fit the hand and must look and feel as though they grew there. That being said, please understand that I have a deep appreciation for all styles of knives and recognize that there is room for many artistic interpretations. However, my own sense of asthetics as it serves function leads me to designs which employ flowing lines and smooth surfaces. Most of my knives have many of the characteristics of shapely women; a narrow waist, leggy handles, warm to the touch, etc. I aim to create a knife that can be functional, fierce, and sexy. After all, the power of first impressions applies to all things in life. If it can make a lasting impression as well, I will consider it a successful knife.
